Rory McIlroy’s PGA Championship week started with a scary injury.
McIlroy, during the practice round on Tuesday, May 12 at Aronimink Golf Club, had to cut it short due to a painful blister.
This blister had recently appeared on his right little finger.
McIlroy, after battling a painful blister, had barely managed to hold just three holes.
He was previously seen walking with a limp during the final round of the Truist Championship on Sunday.
“I ended up ripping my nail off last night, just because it bothered me so much,” McIlroy revealed in an interview with the Irish Independent Tuesday, May 12.
He added: “I just took the bath and softened the toenail, then popped the blister underneath. It’s better today.”
Six-time major champion McIlroy also explained how he had to wear an extra size shoe to repair the blister on his right foot.
On Tuesday, May 12, McIlroy was spotted during a training session struggling with his shoe and sock on his little finger before abandoning training.
It now remains to be seen how McIlroy, with a blister on his little toe, will survive fighting to win a major championship that requires running a half-dozen miles throughout the week.
McIlroy is the No. 2 favorite to win the Wanamaker Trophy this week behind world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, entering the PGA Championship as the defending champion.
