Former national security adviser John Bolton is expected to plead guilty to keeping sensitive and classified information in a private journal and exposing it to two unauthorized individuals.
Multiple reports claim that Bolton, who served as an advisor to President Trump from April 2018 to September 2019, agreed to plead guilty. He faces up to 60 months in prison and a $2.25 million fine.
An insider with knowledge of the investigation told MS NOW that the two unauthorized people exposed to the secret information were his wife and daughter.
Bolton sharply criticized the 79-year-old president and accused the Republican leader of targeting him because of his public opposition.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) searched his home in August last year as part of the investigation.
He was indicted in October on 10 counts of withholding national defense information and eight counts of transmitting national defense information by a federal grand jury in Maryland.
Documents reveal he held or shared more than 1,000 pages of sensitive information.
Reports suggest Bolton will plead guilty at his case’s next hearing in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt on June 26.
