ISLAMABAD:
The federal government on Friday reduced the price of petrol by Rs 4 per liter while keeping the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) unchanged for the next week, according to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division of the Ministry of Power.
The notification states that the revised prices will come into effect on June 6, 2026 (today). Accordingly, he said the ex-depot price of petrol has been reduced to Rs 377.78 per liter from Rs 381.78 per liter, while the price of high-speed diesel remains unchanged at Rs 380.78 per liter.
The latest adjustment comes after a series of fuel price revisions in response to fluctuations in international oil markets. Last week, the government reduced petrol and diesel prices by Rs 22 per litre, providing significant relief to consumers amid rising global energy prices.
Gasoline is used by motorcycles and cars. High-speed diesel is widely used in transportation and agriculture sectors. Among other fuels, kerosene is used in remote areas, especially in the northern parts of the country where LPG is not available for cooking. Light diesel is used in industry.
The oil industry has recently witnessed an increase in smuggling of petroleum products, which poses a major threat to the sale of gasoline and diesel by refineries. The government has taken some measures, but smuggling continues, posing a serious threat even to plans to modernize local refineries.
