“Obsession” breaks new records with unstoppable box office

The independent horror film Obsession is still doing surprisingly high numbers at the box office, even after a few weeks in theaters.

In its fifth weekend, the film grossed approximately $19 million in North America, according to Variety.

It was only down about 25% from the previous weekend, showing that it’s still holding up compared to most films at this point.

The film was directed by Curry Barker and made on a very small budget of less than a million dollars.

Despite this, it later turned into a huge worldwide success as the dark psychological drama debuted with $17 million in May and has now reached approximately $188.3 million in the United States and approximately $265 million worldwide.

This success, however, has now made Obsession the biggest release ever for Focus Features and also the highest-earning horror film of 2026 to date.

The story is about a young man who uses a strange object called One Wish Willow to win his love, but things quickly turn dark when his wish doesn’t come true as he hoped.
