The independent horror film Obsession is still doing surprisingly high numbers at the box office, even after a few weeks in theaters.
In its fifth weekend, the film grossed approximately $19 million in North America, according to Variety.
It was only down about 25% from the previous weekend, showing that it’s still holding up compared to most films at this point.
The film was directed by Curry Barker and made on a very small budget of less than a million dollars.
Despite this, it later turned into a huge worldwide success as the dark psychological drama debuted with $17 million in May and has now reached approximately $188.3 million in the United States and approximately $265 million worldwide.
This success, however, has now made Obsession the biggest release ever for Focus Features and also the highest-earning horror film of 2026 to date.
Reports also indicate that he achieved something rare while growing during his second and third weekends, something that hasn’t been seen since. AND The Extraterrestrial in 1982 outside of vacation periods.
The story is about a young man who uses a strange object called One Wish Willow to win his love, but things quickly turn dark when his wish doesn’t come true as he hoped.
Actress Inde Navarrette also shared that she had a strange real-life connection with the film before joining it, thus adding more attention around the project.
