Tunisia fires Sabri Lamouchi and hires Hervé Renard, first coach victim of the World Cup

Tunisia have appointed two-time African Cup of Nations winner Hervé Renard as head coach midway through the World Cup to see the rest of the way.

Lamouchi, who became the first injured coach after just four days of participating in the sporting world’s biggest extravaganza.

Lamouchi signed a three-year contract in January but was turned away by the Tunisian Football Federation after a crushing 5-1 defeat to Sweden in the first match.

Tunisia has two matches remaining in the World Cup against Japan and the Netherlands.

The FTF released a statement saying Renard would take responsibility until the end of the Tunisian World Cup.

“The agreement also stipulates that negotiations will be opened after the World Cup campaign to consider a long-term partnership based on specific sporting objectives,” the statement said.

This will be Renard’s third consecutive Men’s World Cup as coach.

Previously, he managed to lead Morocco to a draw and two defeats in a group stage exit.

In the 2022 World Cup, he coached Saudi Arabia who crushed Argentina in their first match but conceded two defeats which ended their streak.

According to state television TunisianRenard is expected to join the Tunisian selection on Tuesday June 16 in Monterrey.
