The Coinbase-backed Ethereum Layer 2 network resumed block production on Thursday after a roughly two-hour outage that brought the blockchain to a halt.
In an update, the base team said the channel has resumed operation and internal nodes are syncing properly, although they continue to investigate the root cause of the incident. The team also advised ecosystem node operators to restart their core nodes to restore synchronization.
The first public indication of problems came at 16:03 UTC, when Base reported that block production on mainnet was “unhealthy.” At 16:52 UTC, the team said it had identified an issue and was continuing several resolution efforts.
The incident temporarily halted transaction processing on one of Ethereum’s largest Layer 2 networks. Base has not yet revealed the cause of the invalid block or whether the problem stemmed from a software bug or other consensus-related defect.
The network also suffered an outage in August 2025.
The team said it will continue to monitor network stability and provide further updates as its investigation continues.
