Pakistani security forces shot down four crude drones launched from Afghanistan towards Balochistan, military media said, accusing the Afghan Taliban regime of supporting terrorist groups operating from territory under its control.
In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the incident took place on June 30, when the Afghan Taliban regime launched four rudimentary drones across the border into Balochistan “as part of their patronage and support to terrorist groups operating from within their controlled territories”.
According to the ISPR, the hostile air platforms were immediately detected by Pakistan’s air defense network. “Showing high operational preparedness, security forces successfully neutralized the four incoming drones using sophisticated countermeasures. Thanks to the rapid and effective response, the malicious attempts were effectively thwarted,” the statement said.
The military claimed that such actions by the Afghan Taliban regime were aimed at misleading the Afghan population, who it said were suffering under oppressive rule. “Such ploys of the Afghan Taliban regime are aimed at deceiving the Afghan people who are suffering under their oppressive rule,” the ISPR said.
He urged the Afghan Taliban to recognize that what they called “irresponsible behavior” was only adding to the difficulties faced by the Afghan people.
“Instead of trying to placate their people with such antics and empty rhetoric, they should avoid sponsoring terrorism and adhere to the principle of peaceful coexistence,” the statement said. The military also warned that any further provocations would draw a firm response.
“However, if the Afghan Taliban continues to provoke Pakistan, they will receive a befitting response which will cost them dearly,” the ISPR said. Reaffirming the preparedness of the armed forces, the army said Pakistan remained fully capable of defending its territory against any external threats.
“Pakistan Armed Forces remain fully vigilant and capable of defending every inch of the homeland. Any cross-border misadventure or provocation threatening Pakistan’s sovereignty and endangering our people will continue to elicit swift, decisive and overwhelming responses under Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq,” the statement added.
