Lightning in KP kills two, injures more than 20

At least two children were killed and more than 20 people were injured in different lightning-related incidents in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday, officials said.

In Khyber district, lightning struck a house in Zakhak Hail Bazaar area of ​​Landi Kotal, killing two children and injuring members of the same family.

Assistant sub-inspector Azmat Wali of Landi Kotal police station confirmed the deaths, saying lightning struck a house in the morning. According to him, two children were killed and two others injured.

He added that the house was also damaged in the strike and all those injured were from the same family. Residents launched rescue operations and took the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment, with one of the injured being in critical condition.

Police and other relevant authorities were assessing the damage and gathering further details of the incident, while condolences were offered to the bereaved family.

In another incident, lightning struck a women’s seminary in Wahri area of ​​Upper Dir district, injuring 20 students.

Wahri Deputy Commissioner Aftab Alam said the incident occurred while classes were in progress at the seminary, where around 250 girls were enrolled.

He said all the injured students had been shifted to Wahri Hospital in Tehsil headquarters for treatment, adding that they would be out of danger.
