The petition questions the legality of the proceedings against him on this basis
ISLAMABAD:
The Federal Constitutional Court (FFC) has set the disqualification case of PTI MP Sohail Sultan for hearing. A two-member bench headed by Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi will hear the case on July 8. The court issued notices to the ECP, the Attorney General and other respondents.
Sultan challenged the president’s reference and the jurisdiction of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to proceed against him over allegations that he was a government employee before contesting the general elections.
The ECP had conducted proceedings against the PTI lawmaker based on a reference alleging that he was a government employee before contesting the general elections.
The FCC had previously blocked the ECP from suing Sultan pending adjudication of the case. Before contesting the general elections, Sultan was Deputy Advocate General in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
The motion calls into question the legality of the proceedings against him on this basis.
The PHC granted him interim measures on October 17, 2024 and suspended the procedure initiated by the ECP on the disputed referral.
