Sharjeel Memon says new buses will improve public transport as land for depots identified
Sindh Chief Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Saturday said the government is introducing 50 double-decker buses and 500 new electric (EV) buses in the transport system, which will bring significant improvement to public transport in the province.
The state minister on Saturday chaired a key meeting regarding land allocation for bus depots and transportation plan for various public transport projects. The meeting was attended by Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, Karachi Development Authority (KDA) Director General Asif Jan Siddiqui, Deputy Commissioners of Malir, Korangi, Karachi Central and Karachi West, as well as senior officials of relevant departments.
The officials briefed the minister on land requirements for public transport projects, including parking and operational facilities for buses. Availability of government land in different districts, proposed sites and future requirements were examined to identify suitable locations for bus depots.

On the occasion, Memon directed officials to immediately complete the identification and allocation of suitable land for bus depots. He also asked all deputy commissioners to identify vacant government lands in their respective districts for establishing modern bus depots for mass transport projects.
“Timely availability of suitable deposits and operational infrastructure is essential for the success of these projects,” he said, adding that all institutions concerned should finalize the identification of land and other necessary arrangements at the earliest through mutual coordination.

The State Minister reaffirmed the Sindh government’s commitment to providing modern, comfortable, eco-friendly and world-class travel facilities to citizens. He said the government aimed to put the new buses on the roads for public service as soon as possible, and the ongoing projects in the public transport sector would bring revolutionary changes to the province’s transport system.
