Christopher Nolan may be one of Hollywood’s greatest directors, but he still lives without a cell phone.
Instead of texting or calling people himself, the legendary director has another way to reach the actors he wants to work with.
Matt Damon recently explained how this usually happens while speaking to People during promotions for The Odyssey.
The actor said Nolan’s wife and producing partner Emma Thomas first texted and the message was simple: “Chris will call you.”
A few minutes later, an unknown Universal Pictures number appeared on the phone. Damon joked that everyone who’s worked with Nolan already knows exactly who’s calling.
The Oscar-winning director has stayed away from smartphones for years, however, as he has also said in the past that he avoids emails because he likes to focus on his work without constant distractions.
Emma and the rest of her team take care of most of her communication.
Damon reunited with Nolan for The Odyssey, where he plays the famous Greek hero Ulysses.
The film is their third joint project after Interstellar and Oppenheimer.
Even today, when almost everyone relies on a phone, Nolan continues to do things his own way.
And judging by its success, this old-fashioned approach still works very well.
