- Many Galaxy Watch owners report battery drain issue
- This appears to be from a recent software update
- Samsung hasn’t commented yet, but Google Play Services could be the cause
Samsung makes some of the best smartwatches on the market, but we’re seeing several reports from Galaxy Watch owners of battery life draining quickly – and the problem appears to be related to a recent software update.
As spotted by Android Authority and others, users have taken to Reddit to complain about a sudden drop in battery life. Given the number of comments and upvotes this thread received, it seems like a lot of people are having issues.
Some of the models mentioned in the thread are the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 6 Classic, so this impacts multiple devices. In one case, battery life dropped to just 4-5 hours, showing the severity of the problem.

One user claims battery life has become “considerably worse”, while another describes their Galaxy Watch “burning up battery like crazy”. One commenter said their watch was now “a total disappointment” and not “what Samsung promised.”
Restart or reset
Anyone else have this problem? from r/GalaxyWatch
There has been no official comment on this from Samsung yet – we’ve asked the company and will update this story if we hear back. But Reddit sleuths noticed that Google Play Services was using an excessive amount of battery, so that would appear to be the villain of this particular piece.
Google Play Services runs in the background on Android phones and watches and handles tasks like connecting apps to the operating system, authenticating users, and reporting location data. It is often updated separately from the main Android or Wear OS software.
Standard troubleshooting methods such as restarting, clearing the data cache, or doing a hard reset may help if you encounter this issue. These techniques seem to have helped some affected users, but not everyone.
It’s also worth mentioning that some users said they weren’t seeing the battery life issues described by others. So this does not affect all Galaxy Watches. Hopefully, Samsung can roll out a fix sooner rather than later.
