- Various insiders claim that an unlikely name was chosen, that of the Black Knight.
- Interestingly, this actor almost won the race to play Superman.
James Gunn and Peter Safran have reportedly found the actor they want to play Batman in the DC Universe (DCU).
According to industry insider John Campea, an unlikely name has been chosen to represent the Dark Knight in Gunn and Saffron’s comic book franchise.
Campea did not want to reveal the identity of said actor on the latest edition of his podcast, but according to two different sources — one of whom is “well placed” to know these things, and neither of whom knows the other — have linked the same star to the role.
So who is this mysterious individual? According to other leakers with less reputable backgrounds, including MyTimetoShineHello, it is Tom Brittney.
Who is Tom Brittney and was he really chosen to play the Batman of the DCU?
English actor best known for playing the lead role in seasons 4 to 8 of a British detective series. GranchesterBrittney will not be familiar to the vast majority of readers.
However, he is starting to make a name for himself in Hollywood circles. For starters, he was one of three people to make it to the final round of auditions to play Superman in the DCU. The others? David Corenswet, who won the race to play the Man of Steel, and Nicholas Hoult, who ended up being cast as Supes’ nemesis, Lex Luthor.
Among other roles afterGranchesterBrittney had a small supporting role in the hit Netflix movie Back in actionwith Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz. He will next appear on the big screen in Lionsgate’s Fall 2: Deadlineaka the sequel to the 2022 survivor thriller Autumnwhich comes out at the beginning of September. While Brittney has yet to be officially announced as the DCU’s Caped Crusader, expect him to field many, many questions about his potential casting during Fall 2the press tour.
“Great, Tom, but is there any truth to this rumor?”, you hear yourself asking. At the time of publication, Gunn, who is not above debunking rumors – or, in the rarest of cases, confirming a casting rumor – via social media, had not commented on the subject.
Certainly, the co-head of the DCU has his hands full with The man of tomorrowi.e. the continuation of 2025 Superman movie. Unless Gunn raises his head above the parapet to confirm or deny Brittney’s involvement, we may not know until tomorrow (June 30) when new scenes are expected to be filmed for clay facethe upcoming DCU Chapter One movie.
Why new filming days for Clayface could confirm Brittney’s casting as Batman
Well, production on Clayface is back on the Wirral at the moment as crews prepare to film some shots for the next DC movie due out in October! Filming takes place at the entrance to the old Birkenhead Tunnel from June 30 to July 1!!!!#Clayface #DC #Movie pic.twitter.com/c0TddF20ELJune 28, 2026
According to X/Twitter, use 4thdoctorstan74, clay face‘s production team will be returning to Merseyside in the UK to shoot more material for the upcoming body horror film between June 30 and July 1.
Now, 4thdoctorstan74 has claimed that the said team will only film captured shots. These are usually shot during the post-production process to, among other things, aid the pacing and narrative flow of a film. It is therefore very likely that the film will not undergo major new filming before its launch at the end of October.
That said, I don’t think we can completely rule out the possibility that one of these collections could involve Brittney. if he was hired to play Bruce Wayne and his vigilante alter-ego. After all, there have been countless rumors that Batman won’t appear in clay facewhich seems like a huge misstep given that, you know, the titular villain is just one of the Gotham-based crime fighter’s many enemies. And, with Supergirl Currently struggling to make an impact at the box office, it might be in MM’s best interest. Gunn and Safran to introduce Batman from the DCU as soon as possible in order to maintain interest in their burgeoning film franchise.
If – and honestly, I can’t stress this enough – Brittney is set to play the legendary hero in this DC comic book universe, it would make sense for her Batman to debut in clay faceeven though it’s just an appearance, before its standalone DCU movie The brave and the bold. So all eyes are on Gunn’s social media accounts and the North West of England to see if Brittney has been selected to play the World’s Greatest Detective.
