- Jeff Bezos says AI is a force for good rather than a threat
- Technology will expand the human labor market and create more demand
- Bezos’ comments run counter to the narrative of other prominent AI voices
AI won’t shrink the job market, but it will expand it, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos said in his latest attack on tech’s woemakers.
“I know a lot of people are worried, including a lot of smart people, that AI is going to make humans redundant and so on,” Bezos said at the VivaTech conference in Paris.
“I totally disagree with that view. And I think in fact AI is going to create a labor shortage.”

Bezos’ opinion contradicts many comments recently made by prominent figures in the AI field, unions, studies, experts tracking tech layoffs, and the fears of workers themselves.
Rather than replacing jobs, technology will provide new opportunities for workers and create demand in new areas, he explained.
The comments were made as Bezos spoke about his latest venture, Prometheus, which seeks to use AI to help human manufacturing as a counterweight to industry seeing increased automation.
Bezos also took the opportunity to talk about his desire for humans to focus on space exploration, adding that it is “supply limited, not demand limited.”
The Moon is first on the list of interplanetary habitations. “We are going to the Moon to stay, not just to visit,” Bezos said, adding that establishing a permanent human base on the Moon would facilitate further exploration.
Bezos’ space travel company, Blue Origin, has also been a topic of discussion, after the company’s New Glenn rocket exploded during a ground test at Cape Canaveral in Florida in May. No one was injured in the incident and Blue Origin CEO Dave Limp added that the launch site would be repaired and ready to resume operations before the end of the year.
