Creative Assembly has confirmed that Extraterrestrial: Isolation 2 will take place months after the first game and once again draws inspiration from the first Stranger movie.
Speaking in an interview with TechRadar Gaming at Summer Game Fest 2026 (SGF), creative director Al Hope and animation director Simon Ridge explained how the studio is expanding the world of Stranger in the upcoming sequel, confirming that the films are still the “basis”.
“We really love the Aliens universe, obviously,” Hope said. “I think for us the first game was really close to the first movie in terms of look and feel, [the protagonist] Amandine [to Ripley]but in Isolation 2which takes place months after the events of the first game, we’re still in this wonderful space that we absolutely adore.
“We think the first film is still a very rich vein that we can mine and explore and expand on. It seemed like a really good opportunity for us to continue to push, to deepen that part of the intellectual property.”
Ridge added that the first Stranger The film was “a very important way to guide us” when the team made the first game, and was the “ground” for everything they built.
“Keep that in mind again with the sequel to make sure we’re doing something that provides a similar experience, because that’s your core work, but also with the new parts that are added to it,” said Ridge, which he and Hope mentioned included the new exterior environments, which the first film didn’t feature.
“We’re really serious about creating something that feels very authentic,” Hope continued, explaining how the team continues to create “new elements” to “expand” the world.
“Our goal is to really stay true to the spirit of that first film,” he said. “Authenticity is the lens through which we do everything.”
Extraterrestrial: Isolation 2 is currently in development and will launch on PS5, Xbox Series X and Series S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.
