Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 creators Cold Iron Studios worked closely with 20th Century Studios to ensure the game met the Stranger franchise history.
In an interview with TechRadar Gaming at Summer Game Fest 2026, where we learned about the upcoming co-op shooter, game director Chris Cross discussed the game’s story and confirmed that it won’t be a continuation of its predecessor.
“It’s its own story. It stands alone,” he said, but revealed that it “features returning characters.”
Cross went on to say that Cold Iron worked closely with 20th Century Studios to ensure that Elite Fire Team 2The story followed the tradition of Alien correctly.
“There’s a linear mystery that you discover when you get here,” he said, “and I will say it’s like we’ve been working closely[ly] with 20th Century to make sure we were honoring the story correctly and doing things in our story that are exciting for Alien fanatics. “
The director also hinted at what players can expect, including a prologue mission that will introduce new and returning fans to the game, and then four locations that the studio calls “biomes” with different environmental features, like a planet-side surface colony and a ship.
The game will also feature an underground area beneath the colony, where players will encounter something Cross simply wanted to describe as “Alien-esque”… which sounds scary.
Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 is in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, and PC. It will also feature four-player co-op, which Cross said was added because it was “in high demand” and “works better in a PVE game.”
