ISLAMABAD:
The Supreme Court Registrar said the process of classification of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) cases was underway following the court’s recent judgment on NAB’s jurisdiction, adding that around 300 NAB-related cases were currently pending before the SC.
These remarks were made at a press briefing on Wednesday by Supreme Court Registrar Sohail Laghari and Secretary to the Chief Justice Mushtaq Ahmed, who highlighted the digital transformation and administrative reforms of the Court.
Ahmed said the SC is gradually working to shift the power of resolving cases to an artificial intelligence (AI)-based system to ensure that cases are scheduled strictly as per the approved policy while eliminating human intervention in the process.
He said the SC currently provides a total of 35 services, the majority of which have already been digitized and made available online. He added that work is underway to digitize 12 more services as part of the court’s ongoing digitalization initiative.
Speaking to the media, the registrar said that following the recent judgment regarding the NAB cases, the court was in the process of dismissing the pending cases. He said around 300 NAB cases are currently pending in the Supreme Court.
Officials also shared details about the court’s complaints management system. According to the statement, the SC complaints cell received a total of 50,830 complaints, of which only two directly concerned court officials.
They said action had been taken against the officer concerned in a case involving allegations of corruption. The briefing further revealed that the Foreign Complaints Cell received 1,063 complaints, including 22 SC-related complaints, of which 14 have already been resolved.
