Kaleidescape may not be a name you know in Australia. This is because, so far, the company has not had any presence at the bottom.
If you know the brand and what it does – that is to say produce some of the best home movie players generally reserved for the luxurious personalized installation market – then the arrival of the company on our coasts could be the most exciting new you have read all year round.
It is certainly up there with the most exciting avais announcements for me at least.
Kaleidescape is, according to the company, the “only supplier of digital films with an audio without loss and a complete video quality” via its players which, after the recent launch of the Strato M, is now at three models.
The Strato M is more entry -level compared to Kaleidescape standards in that it produces only in 2K quality, and it is below the strato C and Strato V. These two players were released in 4K quality, the strato V having the additional benefit of the Dolby Vision HDR support.
The three players are now available for purchase in Australia, as well as the Kaleidescape Terraids media servers to store content downloaded from the brand’s shop.
Australian prices have been confirmed as $ 3,999 AU For Strato M, $ 5,899 AU For Strato C and $ 7,499 AU For Strato V. Terrame Prime servers start at $ 10,999 at the 12 storage.
Big news for moviegoers on the big screen
Although the brand is new in Australia, I have known Kaleidescape for some time because I am passionate about homemade cinema and the brand has experienced a cult suite abroad. What I don’t know exactly how its products work.
Fortunately, my American colleague Al Griffin has already had the opportunity to live a complete system of Kaleides for himself and, on the basis of his impressions, I can’t wait to experience it myself.
What seems obvious to the success of Kaleidescape is not necessarily the equipment it produces, but its online store for movie downloads and the user interface to navigate in a downloaded collection. As Al said in his article, “videos downloaded in the company’s store have a binary speed 10 times higher than typical streaming services and, therefore, have a clearer image that is free from compression artefacts.”
“And unlike streaming services,” he adds, “which all use the Dolby Digital Plus audio format with loss and highly compressed, Kaleidescape provides bip-on-bit soundtracks in Dolby Atmos and DTS: x Formats also offered on the Blu-ray ultra HD disk.”
Indeed, Priscilla Morgan, president and head of the company’s exploitation said to me: “Kaleidescape obtains the mezzanine files directly in the studios and we have a complete examination process of our content team by guaranteeing the quality that the director wanted.”
I am a suction cup for quality movies superior to the house, both in terms of image and sound. I even said before that the integrated streaming applications of my TV sound better than the Apple TV 4K. Although I am currently satisfied with the quality that I am able to get at home, both the best streaming services and my growing collection of ultra HD 4K Blu-ray records, the prospect of what is overshadowed by a Kaleidescape media reader is difficult not to be excited.
Kaleidescape claims that 3,000 titles are available during the launch today, and more by being added daily. The content will of course be the real key factor in the success of Kaleidescape. When my colleagues that hi-fi? Reviewed Le Plateau de Cinéma Strato C in the United Kingdom last year, they noticed that the film store lacked content from major studios, notably Disney and NBC Universal, due to license restrictions. I have not yet been able to confirm whether these studios are also absent from the Australian store, but I will update this article as soon as I know it.
Fill the gap

I was a little skeptical about the extent of the Home Theater community in Australia, but Priscilla quickly demystified these thoughts, ensuring that “Australia has enthusiasts of home theater who appreciate the best of the quality and quality of sound.”
She added that “the comments of Australian dealers and distributors indicated that there is a high demand for Kaleides landscape, and they are delighted that it finally happens on their market”.
Now are not mistaken, a Kaleidescape system will be best suited as an addition to a dedicated house cinema. Not only because it will probably be equipped with an audio screen and system to faithfully reproduce movies, television shows and high -quality concert videos of the Kaleidescape store, but also because those with domestic cinema will probably be the only ready to spend large on the required equipment.
That being said, the still strato M could present itself as a more profitable option. Priscilla Morgan adds: “With strato players and terra prime servers that range from capacities and prices, we offer a wide range of products for customers who seek to enter the Kaleidescape ecosystem.” So, which could have been considered a single aspiration for many could now be a more realistic temptation.
Kaleidscape products are now available in Australia, I hope I don’t have to wait too long to discover what they are really capable of. I am just worried that once I do it, I will not be satisfied with the reality of the configuration of my living room.
