Even more Assassin’s Creed leaks have appeared online, and this time they may have revealed the identity of the Codename Hexethe main character of and his surprising lineage.
The information comes from prominent Ubisoft leaker “j0nathan” (via IGN), who claims to have shared the first screenshot of the game showing HexThe protagonist of crouched in a tree, dressed in an assassin’s costume and with a hidden blade ready to strike.
“They call me a witch,” is an alleged line, as is “The forest moves at night.”
The leaker also shared apparent plot details of the witchcraft-inspired game, as well as the identity of the main character: a woman named Anika who has an older assassin mentor named Wolfgang.
Anika’s previously known name, Elsa, is said to have been a fictitious name, but that’s where things get interesting.
Potential spoilers ahead for Assassin’s Creed Hexe
It is claimed that Anika is the descendant of Claudia Auditore, and if you are a fan of the series, you will know that Claudia is the sister of Assassin’s Creed 2 protagonist, Ezio Auditore da Firenze. This would make Anika a direct descendant of Ezio.
The beloved assassin is also said to return in some form and serve as Anika’s guide, but will not be physically present, and will have several vocal lines including parts of The Creed and titles like “Come. Jump with me. One last time for an old man.”
Although the possibility of witchcraft is not ruled out, the leaker stated that Anika would sense Ezio’s presence through some sort of Isu recording, memory disk, flashbacks, or similar technology.
As for the story, Hexe will take place in Würzburg, Germany during the witch trials of 1625, and non-playable characters (NPCs) will apparently attempt to expose and capture Anika for practicing witchcraft.
The game will also feature “lots of forests”, mission objectives that require players to “find the ritual sites” and “recover stolen relics”, as well as unlockable skills like “jump from tree to tree”.
Assassin’s Creed Hex does not yet have a release date, but could release in 2027, and it is reported that the game “will not be an RPG”, unlike previous entries in the series.
The game’s original creative director, Clint Hocking, left the studio for a second time earlier this year after Ubisoft appointed three experienced people. Assassin’s Creed developers to lead the franchise within the company’s new subsidiary, Vantage Studios, funded by Tencent.
Ubisoft has confirmed that Jean Guesdon, the creative director of Black flag And Origins, will now lead Assassin’s Creed Hex.
