Rescue 1122 spokesperson said a search operation to recover other people trapped under the debris was underway
At least 10 people were killed and six others injured after a three-story building collapsed in Baghbanpura area of Lahore on Wednesday evening, according to Lahore Rescue 1122.
Lahore Rescue 1122 spokesperson Farooq Ahmad said the emergency response team pulled 16 people from the rubble; six were declared dead on the spot, while the rest were transferred to hospital for treatment, adding that a search operation to recover other people trapped under the rubble was underway.
“Later, four more people succumbed to their injuries in the hospital, taking the death toll to 10,” he said, adding that currently the Lahore Services Hospital was accommodating four more people for treatment of serious injuries, while two more people were discharged.
A list released by the spokesperson identified the deceased as: Shahida Bibi, 45, wife of Muhammad Shahid; Samina Bibi, 45 years old, wife of Abbas Ali; Moudjahid, 22 years old, son of Shahid; Hamid, 7 years old, son of Abbas; Komal, daughter of Abbas; Hasnain, 10 years old, son of Shahid; Neelam, 10 years old, daughter of Abbas; Ahad Ali, 22 years old, son of Shahid Ali; Ayesha Bibi, 18; and Naseem Bibi, 72, wife of the late Meraj.
The seriously injured people were identified as Saniya Bibi, Sehar Bibi, Zahid and Sabir Ali by rescue services.
Asked about the total number of people present at the time of the collapse, Ahmad said: “Rescue 1122 only knows the people recovered from the collapsed building and does not know how many people were actually present at the time of the incident. »

The police said The Express PK Press Club that the roof of the dilapidated residential building collapsed in Kotli Pir Abdul Rehman area around 10:15 p.m., causing the entire building to collapse.
Police say members of a multi-generational family living in the residence on different floors were trapped after the building collapsed. Police revealed that an immediate rescue operation had been launched to recover the victims from the rubble.

The municipal commissioner visited the hospital and the incident site late in the night and met the survivors rescued from the collapsed building.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MP Malik Waheed also visited the accident site and assured the relatives of those trapped in the rubble that all possible help would be provided to recover the victims.
The latest incident occurred just weeks after another fatal roof collapse in Lahore. On June 30, at least 14 children were killed when the roof of a private tuition center in a dilapidated building collapsed in Kahna.
Later, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz ordered an immediate security audit of all school buildings located in densely populated areas of the province following the tragedy.
It is worth noting that at least half of the more than 100 monsoon-related deaths were caused by house and roof collapses, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
