- The Australian government has confirmed it is working with Anthropic and other vendors to stay informed of emerging cybersecurity vulnerabilities.
- Anthropic’s Mythos Preview, part of the Glasswing project, is said to be powerful enough to discover and exploit vulnerabilities on a large scale, although it remains unreleased to the public.
- Debate continues over whether Mythos represents a real breakthrough or a publicity stunt, with governments and major software companies already testing its potential impact.
The Australian government is “working with” Anthropic and other similar software providers to ensure it is “aware of emerging vulnerabilities.”
This is what the spokesperson for the Minister of the Interior, Tony Burke, told the media earlier this week.
“Our government takes the protection of critical infrastructure very seriously, which is why we work with software vendors and companies like Anthropic to ensure we are aware of emerging vulnerabilities,” the spokesperson cited.

How powerful is Mythos really?
We’re not sure if this means the Australian government is using Anthropic’s Mythos Preview tool, or if it’s just being kept up to date with the tool’s capabilities.
Earlier this month, Anthropic announced a new cybersecurity initiative called Project Glasswing. At its heart is Mythos Preview, the company’s latest generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) model, purportedly capable of discovering – and exploiting – more vulnerabilities than any of its predecessors.
In fact, Mythos is reportedly so powerful that Anthropic decided not to share it with the public and instead farmed it out to a handful of major software companies.
Since then, the Internet has been in turmoil. While some hailed it as a revolution that would all but end cybercrime, others were wary of what could happen if the tool fell into the wrong hands. Some claimed it was just a publicity stunt and criticized Anthropic for basing its advertising on fear. Apparently, OpenAI did the same with an earlier version of Chat-GPT which, as it later turned out, was not as powerful as the company claimed.
However, things could be different with Mythos. The US government apparently uses it, although the company has been designated as a supply chain risk, and Mozilla’s CTO recently called the tool a light at the end of the tunnel.
The public release of Mythos does not yet have a firm date.
