Beatles legend Paul McCartney has made an explosive statement about influencer culture, insisting that “people who don’t seem talented are incredibly famous.”
The 83-year-old music legend has been a part of the showbiz industry for six decades and is well-versed in the attitudes and approaches of different generations entering and exiting the music world.
In a new interview, Paul opened up about how much he thinks the celebrity world has changed, especially with the rise of social media.
Speaking on The rest is entertainment podcast, hosts Marina Hyde and Richard Osman asked the star a listener question about what confuses him most about the 21st century.
He said: “I think a lot of things about influencers – I just don’t really understand, because I’m not that generation.
“But I see it, there’s nothing you can do about it. My wife will look at Instagram and show me something and then one of these will pop up.
“I think it’s funny – and I guess it always happens – but people who don’t seem particularly talented are incredibly famous. Billions of hits and views.
“You have to be careful when you talk about that, because it gives the impression of being very old-fashioned. What I am.
Last month, the first track from Paul’s album, The boys from Dungeon Lane, was released, called The days we left behind and is expected to be fully released in May.
