Country music star Brad Paisley has defended Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s massive wedding at Madison Square Garden, describing the multi-million pound event as one of the “least pretentious” ceremonies he has ever attended.
While a few disgruntled guests reportedly called the star-studded nuptials “cheesy” and “chaotic,” the legendary singer had nothing but praise for the high-profile celebration.
Addressing the Associated PressPaisley dismissed the criticism, insisting the day had a deeply personal meaning for those lucky enough to attend.
The 36-year-old pop icon and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, also 36, officially tied the knot on July 3 at the famous New York City arena, which was completely transformed into a castle-inspired setting with a dramatic grand staircase.
This spectacular affair is said to have cost the powerful couple $20 million.
The absolute takeover of the arena included a lighted “JusT&T” marquee outside, an elaborate dessert, a 1970 Chevy Chevelle given away as a raffle prize and actor Adam Sandler serving as the official wedding officiant.
The 1,000-strong guest list was also treated to exclusive live performances from rock royalty Paul McCartney and Stevie Nicks.
Despite the scale of the event, the 53-year-old country artist remained blown away by the grounded atmosphere.
He explained that, ironically, it was one of the most unpretentious weddings he had ever seen or will ever see.
He noted that being invited meant a lot to him and his wife, 9-1-1: Nashville star Kimberly Williams-Paisley, seeing it as a huge thank you from Swift herself.
The connection between the two musicians dates back almost two decades; Swift was just a teenager when she landed a career-boosting gig as the opening act for Paisley’s. Tour of bonfires and amplifiers in 2007, and since then, the two men have maintained a fiercely supportive friendship.
To secure a place at the top-secret event, one had to go through a strict and highly secure invitation process, which Paisley likened to an entertaining game of cat and mouse.
The physical invitations were heavily watermarked to block any potential leaks to the media, explicitly telling the recipients that their presence meant a lot to the couple.
Paisley recalled how the initial message teasingly provided a date and approximate geographic area without specifying the actual building, promising that more details would follow only if they committed to attending.
After receiving the note, Paisley asked his wife of 54 years if she wanted to go, and her immediate and enthusiastic agreement sealed their final “yes.”
To create a surprise, the bride and groom kept their loved ones entirely in the dark, only revealing the exact location on the morning of the wedding.
Additionally, participants were given strict instructions that all smartphones and smart devices would be collected and securely locked until the end of the night.
The total digital outage caused a bit of anxiety among guests before the wedding.
