Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday termed the development of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) a priority of the federal government, saying special attention was being paid to improving infrastructure, communications, energy, education, health and tourism, as well as increasing employment opportunities in the region.
Addressing a meeting with the newly elected members of the British Assembly belonging to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), who visited him in Islamabad, the Prime Minister said the local economy would be further strengthened through the utilization of natural resources, tourist destinations and mineral reserves of the region.
He said providing quality education, modern technical training and dignified employment to young people was a key priority of the government, enabling them to play a role in national development.
The Prime Minister said elected officials were a direct source of awareness of public expectations, issues and priorities, adding that regardless of political affiliation, the sole aim of leadership should be to serve the public and make people’s lives easier.

Thanking the British people for demonstrating their love, loyalty and national unity with Pakistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz said the construction of four Daanish schools in the region was in its final stages and classes would begin next year.
He also said work on a 100 megawatt solar power project was progressing rapidly and assured the delegation that the Federal Government was using all available resources to ensure the timely completion of ongoing development projects in Britain.
The Prime Minister said a climate change and glacial lake flooding (GLOF) early warning system had been installed in Britain to provide timely information to residents and help them cope with adverse weather conditions.
He said effective communication between the federal government and local leaders was essential to solving public problems, ensuring better governance and promoting transparency.

Assuring the delegation that their suggestions would be taken into account, the Prime Minister said the government would work in coordination with them for the welfare of the British people. He also urged parliamentarians to play a constructive role, expressing hope that Britain will achieve greater development and prosperity through collective efforts.
Prime Minister Shehbaz ordered the formation of a committee, which will be chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, to examine the concrete proposals presented by the lawmakers and submit a report. The committee will also include Minister for Kashmir Affairs and GB Amir Muqam and Advisor to Prime Minister on Political and Public Affairs Rana Sanaullah.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Minister for Kashmir and UK Affairs Amir Muqam and Advisor to the Prime Minister on Political and Public Affairs Rana Sanaullah.
