Capital Launches First-Ever ‘Mehfooz Muharram’ App for Digital Security Monitoring

In a first for the federal capital, authorities have developed a special digital app, ‘Mehfooz Muharram’ (Safe Muharram), as part of a comprehensive security package for Muharram-ul-Haram, with comprehensive PK Press Club-tagging of all imambargahs, religious gatherings and procession routes, as well as digital drone surveillance.

The measures were discussed at a high-level meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who assessed security and administrative preparations for the Muharram celebrations on Thursday.

The officials informed the meeting that the new app ‘Mehfooz Muharram’ would enable citizens to report suspicious individuals, suspicious activities or inadequate security measures.

The app would also provide live location sharing and image sharing features to help authorities quickly respond to potential security concerns.

A central control room has been established at Safe City Islamabad to monitor security operations and coordinate responses during the holy month.

The minister asked authorities to implement a comprehensive traffic management plan and ensure a four-tier security cordon around all religious gatherings and processions. He also ordered strict screening procedures at all entry and exit points of procession routes and places hosting majalis.

Highlighting the importance of field supervision, Naqvi asked all concerned officers to remain present on the ground throughout Muharram. He further directed officials to ensure that timely and adequate meals and refreshments are provided to security personnel deployed on duty.

The interior minister stressed the need for close coordination with religious scholars to maintain peace and law and order. He also called for strict compliance with the code of conduct and ordered authorities to adopt a zero-tolerance policy towards provocative or inflammatory content.

During the briefing, the Chief Commissioner and Inspector General of Islamabad Police gave a detailed overview of the security preparations. The officials informed the meeting that security audits of all majalis and processions had been completed, while the peace and Nigehban committees had been activated to support law enforcement efforts.
