Carnival Cruise Line has officially revealed the name of its highly anticipated next-generation ship “Carnival Destiny”. The announcement was made during a steel cutting ceremony at the Finantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, marking the start of construction of the first ship of the new Ace class.
The ship is named after the original “Carnival Destiny”, launched 30 years ago as the world’s largest cruise ship with a weight of around 100,000 tonnes. The new ship will honor this heritage by once again breaking records, becoming the first Carnival ship to exceed 200,000 tons, or approximately 230,000 gross tons.
As the president of Carnival Cruise Line said: “Carnival Destiny builds on a legacy that has already changed cruising. With this ship, we are once again elevating the guest experience, creating a ship that feels more expansive, while helping guests feel more connected and, ultimately, have more fun.”
The ship will be the most outdoor megaship afloat, featuring an unrivaled number of ocean-view balcony staterooms, a new lanai deck and more than 4.5 acres of glass, which will include large, multi-story glass walls. This will allow for more ocean viewing opportunities on board, which is in line with the company’s “More sea to see” philosophy.
Notably, 70% of the ship’s venues and attractions will be entirely new concepts for Carnival, offering renovated restaurants, next-generation bars, lounges, immersive entertainment and dynamic outdoor spaces.
Carnival Destiny will sail to destinations in the Caribbean, Bahamas and Mexico when it launches in summer 2029. Two additional Ace-class ships are also planned for 2031 and 2033.
