- Openai Sora’s video generation is still not available for new accounts
- Restrictions follow a week of regular breakdowns affecting all chatgpt users
- Openai says it is currently experiencing intense traffic “
Chatgpt has both a great and terrible start of the month, according to whom you ask. While Openai is enthusiastic about the popularity of new features such as its new generation of native images, the Chatgpt more subscribers are increasingly frustrated by the restrictions and unequal performance caused by the new wave of popularity of the chatbot – and I am among them.
Last week, Chatgpt had one of the worst periods for breakdowns. Although they are mainly short -lived problems, coherent problems (usually from 9 a.m. het / 14h) have led to understandable grunts of subscribers that have seen the doors of the new generation of native chatgpt images open to free user hordes.
As I type, the OpenAi status page again indicates that the company “knows problems” and that the Downdector display small points in reports – although nothing on the scale of last week, fortunately.
The magnitude of last week’s overvoltage was revealed by the OPENAI COO Brad Lightcap on X (formerly Twitter), which said that “more than 130 million users have generated 700 m and (!) Images since last Tuesday”.
He added that “we appreciate your patience when we try to serve everyone”, which was a slightly more sympathetic take compared to the more in fact in terms of the CEO Altman that “you should expect the new versions of Openai to be delayed, things to break and so that the service is sometimes slow because we are facing capacity challenges”. In other words, treat it because we put our foot on the gas.
First very crazy week for images in Chatgpt – more than 130 million users have generated 700 m and more (!) Images since last Tuesday, we are now our fastest growth chatgpt market 💪🇮🇳The range of visual creativity has been extremely inspiring, we appreciate your patience while we are trying to serve…April 3, 2025
But although minor breakdowns are understandable, the least obvious impacts of OpenAi’s rapid scaling this month cause more frustration. Something that has not been made very clear, apart from help items, is that the generation of Openai Sora videos is still not available for new accounts for a week from the moment it was “temporarily disabled”.
A number of people have registered in Chatgpt Plus, some even for its $ 200 level per month, ignoring that the functionality is not available. This does not only affect new subscribers – if (like me) you are an existing subscriber who has not yet used Sora, you cannot use it for videos at the moment either (only images, like the above).
Openai’s explanation on its help pages is that it “currently experiences intense traffic” and that the generation of Sora videos is only “temporarily” unavailable. But it is regrettable that the sora key pages, as is one for pricing, do not mention these limitations. I asked Openai an update at the moment when this restriction could be lifted and updated this story if I heard.
The chatgpt balancing act
I just went through the list of what we plan to launch in the coming months.April 5, 2025
Although these chatgpt problems are still relatively minor in the large scheme of what it can still do, the frustration of paying users is not soothed by the noise from the best OpenAi brass – who constantly sing the number of users who melt its GPUs and the new features that will probably worsen its capacity problems soon.
During the weekend, Sam Altman has enthusiastically posted “the list of what we plan to launch in the coming months”. Well, Chatgpt subscribers hope that the list will be at the top of the new GPU and server capacity which can manage its influx of new users more reliably – and also provide its full set of announced features.
At the risk of resembling a passenger from the spoiled airline complaining about the lack of free peanuts during the miracle of the transatlantic flight, Openai must keep an eye on his paid subscribers, even if he continues to develop his global user base.
After all, the competition AI is hot, and Google Gemini is advancing in certain regions while Deepseek and Manus AI offer increasingly tempting alternatives for certain tasks. This explains why Openai threw the channels and recently changed his rules book to expand his call. But Chatgpt subscribers hope that this expansion is not done to the detriment of the quality of the experience which made them register in the first place.
