- The Civilization of Sid Meier 7 receives massive update on May 19
- It overhauls core mechanics like victories and introduces proven civilizations that can be played as an entire game.
- Other additions include balance changes and a new free leader
If you weren’t a fan of all the ways The Civilization of Sid Meier 7 left the long-running strategy franchise, developer Firaxis Games is preparing the update for you.
The Test of Time update will be released on May 19, 2026, and is a massive overhaul that seems designed to address many players’ complaints about the game. The biggest addition is the ability to play as a single civilization for an entire game.
Known as Proven Civilizations, these civilizations can use a new syncretism mechanism to adopt unique units or infrastructure from others, or choose to strengthen their existing traits with affirmation. Rather than replacing existing civic change mechanisms, which allow you to change things between ages, this will seem to exist as an option alongside them.

Victories are also completely reworked, with a new system intended to provide more viable paths to success. Along with this, the legacy path system, which gave you distinct goals to pursue in each age, is being replaced with more dynamic Triumphs.
These difficult tasks are entirely optional and linked to the game’s six attributes: militaristic, cultural, scientific, economic, diplomatic and expansionist.
These big mechanical changes are accompanied by a series of new content, including a new map, map generation updates, a selection of new narrative events, biome updates and a host of balance changes, as well as interface updates. Players will even receive a new leader for free!
More information about the update is expected to be released in the coming weeks, with a developer stream scheduled for May 13.
The Civilization of Sid Meier 7 is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
