CNG stations in KP set to reopen today

ISLAMABAD:

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Wednesday announced that compressed natural gas (CNG) stations across the province would resume operations from Thursday (today), bringing much-needed relief to transporters, motorists and the general public after weeks of disruptions.

Addressing a joint press conference in Islamabad alongside KP Opposition Leader Dr Ebadullah and Provincial Adviser on Finance Muzammil Aslam, the governor said the provincial government, opposition parties and the federal government have been working together to resolve the long-standing problem of gas shortage.

“From tomorrow (Thursday), CNG stations in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa will open. Gas will be supplied uninterrupted from 6 am to 6 pm every day,” Governor Faisal Karim Kundi said. He added that an agreement has been reached with the federal government to supply 35 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) of gas to the province.

The governor stressed that all political parties in KP were united to resolve the problems faced by the people of the province. “The solution to the problems of the province is our top priority. Every actor must play their role. We want a strong federation, which is why we have directly asked the Prime Minister to take care of it,” he said.

Governor Kundi expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for constituting a high-level committee to resolve the issue of CNG gas supply. He particularly thanked Advisor to the Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah and Federal Minister Ali Pervez Malik for their proactive role in resolving the crisis. “We informed the Prime Minister about the CNG situation and a positive decision was taken,” he noted.

The governor also lauded the federal government’s prompt action on the wheat crisis, saying the problem is expected to be resolved within a day or two. “Positive progress is being made to address the legitimate concerns of the province. The harmony between the federation and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa is commendable,” he added.

Highlighting the rare political unity of the province, Governor Kundi praised the joint efforts of the provincial government and opposition parties.
