
USA Fencing recognized a federal investigation to come on an incident that occurred during one of its events where a female shooter was punished for refusing to deal with a transgender competitor.
The investigation, which will be conducted by the newly formed title IX inquiry team, jointly with the United States Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Justice, was announced on Friday by the Secretary of Education Linda McMahon.
The incident, which occurred at the opening of Cherry Blossom in Maryland on March 30, saw the female shooter Stephanie Turner take a knee to protest against the competitor Trans Redmond Sullivan. Turner was then disqualified from the event and escorted outside the site.
USA Fencing provided a statement to PK Press Club Digital saying that it will cooperate with the investigation.
“American fences will respond and cooperate with any investigation as required by law,” the statement said.
