Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande’s friendship reigned on social media throughout the press tour of Wickedand arguably created more noise than the film itself.
In interviews, the 39-year-old actress and singer was often seen protecting Grande, 32, or co-stars expressing affection towards each other.
Although it seemed healthy to many people, some dissected the nature of their friendship, calling it fake or something more than a friendship.
Addressing the whole Internet debate, the Broadway star recently said in an interview: “It’s very interesting to watch people’s perception versus reality. A lot of psychologists sitting at home deciding who we were, what we were going through, what we were doing and why.”
Erivo continued, “I think people didn’t really believe that we were actually friends. But it’s also because people don’t know me very well. If I’m a friend, then I’m a friend. If I’m not, then I’m not.”
It was not the first time that Harriet The star spoke out about the out-of-context comments about her friendship with the Side by side success maker.
She previously shut down comments accusing them of doing a publicity stunt and claimed that the reason people don’t view their bond as normal is because they’re not used to seeing healthy, close platonic friendships between women.
