Dame Julie Andrews stepped into the spotlight for a cause close to her heart.
THE Mary Poppins The caption appeared in a video message to launch the seventh World Parkinson’s Congress, calling for global participation in the fight against the disease.
“Good evening everyone, my name is Julie Andrews and I am happy to welcome you to the Seventh World Parkinson’s Congress,” the 90-year-old said in the clip shared by the Global Parkinson Coalition. “Your participation is invaluable as we seek to find a cure for this terrible disease. I know firsthand how devastating it can be.”
Sitting by a sunny window overlooking a garden, Andrews looked relaxed in a gray sweater layered with a white turtleneck, accessorized with gold earrings and a necklace.
She concluded her speech with a call to action: “May we all become a beacon of light to stop him in his tracks. Count me as a guiding light. Thank you.”
Although still active in her career, Andrews rarely makes public appearances.
She continues to narrate Lady Whistledown in Netflix. The Bridgerton Chronicles and has lent his voice to projects such as Minions: The Rise of Gru.
A third Princess Diaries the film is in development, although her return as Queen Clarisse Renaldi remains uncertain.
