LAHORE: An autopsy report released on Friday revealed that the death of a 10-year-old student found at a tuition center in Ichhra area of Lahore was caused by hanging, while police continue to investigate the incident.

Police handed over the girl’s body to her family after the post-mortem. According to the initial report, an obvious ligature mark was found on her neck, while no signs of torture or forced assault were detected on her body.

Police said the toilet door – where she was found – was unlocked when the incident came to light.

Investigators sent fingerprints and other evidence collected at the scene to a forensic lab for examination, police said.

Meanwhile, police arrested the owner of the property and began further investigation into the matter.

The report comes after police registered a murder case after the 10-year-old girl was found dead in the toilet of the private tuition center. The case was registered on the complaint of the girl’s father, Muhammad Adnan.

According to the police, The News reported, victim “N” had left her home to attend classes at the tuition center in a house where she had been studying for a year and a half with two other children from the same family. She was later found unconscious in the center’s toilets.

Eyewitnesses said that after the child’s teachers and family realized she was missing, they, along with local residents, forced open the locked toilet door. The girl was extricated and rushed to hospital. However, doctors pronounced him dead.

Later speaking to the media, SP Model Town said investigators had launched an investigation and the motive and circumstances surrounding the child’s death would only become clear once the investigation and autopsy report were completed.

At the same time, the victim’s father recounted the events, claiming to have received a phone call informing him that his daughter had lost consciousness at the school center.

“I was informed that my daughter had fainted. She was brought to the hospital on a motorbike with the help of local people,” he said. He claimed doctors asked if there were any marks on the child’s neck before the incident, but maintained there were none when she left the house.

“I think someone did this to my daughter. Who would do such a thing to children?” he said, while appealing to CM to ensure justice. Police officials are not ruling out any possibilities at this stage and said all aspects of the case are being investigated.

The death comes less than two weeks after the death of 14 children following the collapse of the roof of a school support center in Lahore. The children who died were aged 5 to 16 and most were under 9 years old.
