- The Pinguino is up to 50% more efficient than some competing models
- It has a silent mode for bedtime cooling
- It’s on sale now for £999 direct from De’Longhi
With our weather apps promising a hot weekend and a hot summer just around the corner, De’Longhi couldn’t have picked a better time to launch a new premium portable air conditioner in its Pinguino line. The Pinguino GentleJet Inverter is a portable air conditioner and dehumidifier combo, and De’Longhi says it’s much more efficient than competing models.
Most housing in the UK has not been designed with hot weather in mind: the focus has been on keeping the heat in, not keeping it out. Portable air conditioners are a good solution to this problem, as they are generally much cheaper than permanently installing air conditioning. They are also better suited to renters because unlike fixed installations, you can take them with you when you move.
This new De’Longhi Pinguino is one of the most powerful laptops you can buy: laptops often produce 7,000 to 9,000 BTUs, which is suitable for small or medium-sized rooms. The Pinguino has 13,300 BTU per hour, so it’s also suitable for larger rooms.
Key details and pricing
The De’Longhi Pinguino is equipped with an inverter that automatically regulates the cooling based not only on the ambient temperature but also the humidity level. It is designed to cool rooms up to 54 square meters, producing 13,000 BTU (3.3 kW).
Despite its power, De’Longhi says the Pinguino is energy efficient: it uses 45% less energy than non-inverter models. It is also quiet: only 43 dB(A) in silent mode.
There are three operating modes here: air conditioning, fan only and dehumidification. Automated pivoting louvers direct air in Focused and Swing modes, and what De’Longhi calls 180° Arctic Gentle Surround technology diffuses cool air without hot spots or frigid drafts.
As a dehumidifier, the Pinguino GentleJet Inverter can remove up to 73 liters of moisture every 24 hours.
The Pinguino is Quiet Mark accredited and energy rated A+. Its Eco Real Feel mode can reduce power consumption by up to 30%, while Quiet mode reduces operating noise by up to half.
The Pinguino GentleJet Inverter is now available in the UK at a recommended retail price of £999.99. It is available in two finishes: white and gray.
