Dreame began life as a robot vacuum brand, before adding other air-focused devices to its roster, such as hand vacuums and hair dryers. It’s only been around since 2017/18, but in that time it’s established itself as a major player in these markets – it features highly in my rankings for the best cordless vacuum cleaner and best robot vacuum cleaner.
So I was eager to see what Dreame would present at CES 2026. I was expecting a new robot vacuum cleaner, perhaps innovative air purifiers. What I didn’t expect was that Dreame would announce its entry into literally every corner of the house. I’m not exaggerating: if you’re thinking of a household appliance, Dreame now has one in its range.
The vision, according to the press release, is to evolve from “a standalone smart device brand to a comprehensive connected lifestyle provider with an ecosystem now spanning home, garden, outdoors and on the go.” The accompanying slogan is “All dreams in one dream”, which makes no sense.
Too far, too soon?
I’ve tested a number of Dreame gadgets and have almost always been impressed, but I’m wary of this latest expansion. It all just seems too quick and too broad in scope to have been done with the care and expertise required. The difficulty I had in obtaining information on the products that interested me the most did not reassure me further.
Previously, Dreame’s category extensions made sense. For example, there is a crossover between the mechanics of a vacuum cleaner and that of a hair dryer. I can see how a brand that knows its way around robot vacuums could also create a great lawn robot.
But I struggle to see how these skills could translate to coffee machines or televisions – two categories that are very specific and require specialized knowledge and skills to excel. The same goes for things like smartwatches and action cameras.
Of course, I haven’t tested any of the new gadgets yet – I’ve only seen them shown and demonstrated, which is not a reliable way to judge a product. The proof will be in the tests, and I hope to be pleasantly surprised.
