Eight-year-old child killed, four injured in wall collapse in Baghbanpura in Lahore

Rescue 1122 spokesperson said 25 officials and seven vehicles participated in the rescue operation

An eight-year-old child was killed and at least four others were injured after the wall of an under-construction building collapsed on Thursday in Baghbanpura area of ​​Lahore, according to Lahore Rescue 1122.

An official statement issued by the department said the third floor wall of the building under construction collapsed, trapping several people under the rubble and killing a minor.

The emergency services responded immediately to the call for help received at 12:12 p.m. and arrived at the scene of the accident to recover the child’s body and rescue those injured in the accident.

Rescue 1122 spokesperson Farooq Ahmed said the deceased child was identified as Abdullah, son of Amjad Butt.

He added that the four injured in the accident were taken to the Lahore Services Hospital for tertiary care by the rescue services. They were identified as Wasim, 42, Shakeel, 38, Nadeem, 35, and Faiz Ahmed, 32.

Talk to The Express PK Press Club, the spokesperson said the rescue operation involved 25 rescue workers and seven vehicles.

Detailing the incident, he said the wall of the under-construction building of a private school collapsed, trapping at least four people under the rubble and killing a child immediately after impact. One person remained trapped under the rubble and was recovered by emergency services.

The incident occurred just two days after a roof collapse of a tuition center in Lahore’s Kahna area claimed the lives of 14 children. Police filed a criminal complaint against landowners and a construction worker.

Police have named four suspects in the case: three brothers – Usman, Faizan and Rehan – who owned the property, and Umair, a construction worker who was carrying out repairs in the building.

The FIR said that repair work was going on while the children were attending classes inside the building. Construction materials were allegedly placed on the roof of the hall serving as a teaching center, even though the roof was already in a state of disrepair.
