Well, yesterday’s match didn’t go as planned. Not only did I lose on the total bet I had placed, but my ticket to France caught fire when they decided it probably wasn’t worth trying to win. In all honesty, Spain looked like the better team in the match, more precise, more aggressive and just plain smarter on the pitch.

England enters this semi-final with a certain momentum. The team looked a little shaky at the start of the tournament, but I feel like they found a way to put the pieces back together. It also doesn’t hurt that Jude Bellingham has become a monster. He now has six goals, putting Harry Kane at the top of the team. The two are still in conversation for the Golden Boot, but it will still take time to determine that. England have not looked elite in defense apart from a key sequence in the match against Mexico, but now have their full squad back after being without just one player due to a red card.

In the opening matches of the World Cup, it was a bit of a question whether England were just there to be there. In their first match, England beat Croatia 4-2. In the next match, very little happened and the match was a draw against Ghana. The third match saw Kane put the team on his back and score two goals in a 2–0 victory over Panama. In the round of 16, DR Congo gave England all they could handle. The match against Mexico was one of the best matches I have ever seen, and the defensive position started because of the aforementioned red card. Norway arguably had a chance to win, but one of the stupidest plays ever happened because it was a 2-on-1 opportunity for Norway and no one passed the ball to Erling Haaland, one of the tournament’s top scorers. England survive and now play here.

Surviving might also be a good way to describe what Argentina did at this World Cup. Things haven’t been easy for this team in two of the last three games. There was a lot of controversy, especially during the match against Egypt. Although there was also reason to have controversy surrounding the England team, due to a ball hitting the camera before a goal was scored. Things happen, but some of them are a little more questionable than others.

We know that Argentina’s objective is to get the ball to Lionel Messi. He is one of the best players of all time and the hope is to position him to score as much as possible. He has certainly done his fair share with eight World Cup goals. He didn’t score against Switzerland, and he doesn’t go many games without finding the net.

Does it make sense to bet on Messi here to score? At +125, it’s one of the first times (and maybe only time) I remember him at the World Cup this year with more money to score a goal. England have allowed a goal in all but two of their World Cup matches, so it’s not like the team is untouchable. I’m going to pull the trigger on Messi.

I also think over 2.5 is a good overview. Yes, I think the teams will be a little conservative, and one of them will probably score and then try to play away. However, mistakes happen and both teams have very capable scorers and sets. It may be best to play both teams to score at -130. Sure, either team could win 3-0 and the over would be paid, but this bet is not the case. If it ends 1-1 after 90 minutes, I lose. It’s a bet. However, I am a little more confident about the three goals scored. I’ll take over.
