- Former Rockstar Games producer John Ricchio thinks Grand Theft Auto 6 will be of a “monstrous” scale
- He says the developer tends to make each game bigger than the last.
- However, he would not want to work on the game due to his ambition.
Former Rockstar Games producer John Ricchio believes Grand Theft Auto 6 will be a huge game and he’s happy not to be working on such an ambitious project.
In a new podcast interview with Kiwi Talkz, where the developer talked about his time at Rockstar and the critical culture that came with the role, Ricchio was asked if any part of him wanted to work on GTA6or if thinking about the project stressed him out.
“I think the fact that every time they make a RGTit’s like ridiculously bigger than before, it’s like something that I think about,” Ricchio said. “I can only imagine the size of GTA6. It must be monstrous, or if it’s not monstrous, it’s probably much more detailed. »
GTA6 will have a much larger Vice City map, allowing players to explore multiple regions of Leonida. There will also be a ton of open-world activities and features to access, including car stores, clothing stores, hairdressers, shelters, as well as boats that players can take on the water.
The developer suggested that if Rockstar “kept the same footprint as GTA 5, which was significantly larger than GTA4significantly larger than RDR [Red Dead Redemption] and continued to build on this framework, GTA6 will be a huge game.
“Between RDR And RGTI think they were continually increasing the size of the world, which is a big deal, right?” he said. “It’s a lot more stuff to build. That’s a lot more performance to manage. There are a lot of considerations to make when opting for a bigger world, but it really makes you feel like you’re in a place, doesn’t it? It feels like a huge place.”
For that reason, Ricchio added jokingly, he’s “pretty happy” not to be working on the game.
Look on it
“It’s not that it wouldn’t be cool to work with these people. I still think about my Rockstar teams all the time,” he said.
“It’s really tough, and it’s a tough time in your career where you’re working so hard on something, and to get to the end and then have people be really excited about what you’ve done is just magical, it’s so rewarding.
“I will never forget some of the plays with the public events for Max Payne or for RDRand even RGTwe were involved in very specific pieces, but we just had people who were very excited about what you had created or about being a part of something. It’s so incredible. It’s so nice to do something, to spend a lot of time [on something] and people like it.”
Ricchio went on to say that while he was still at the studio and working on GTA6he wouldn’t be “sensitive” to the way things currently work, which would “probably lead to an exit for me.”
“I learned a lot about different ways of doing things and different ways of building successful and difficult projects, and it doesn’t require doing it this way at the expense of burning out people,” the developer said. “Clearly it works, and they’re making games that work really well, and I hope RGT [6] do really well, even at a higher price.
