Gas users can face new price increases

Islamabad:

Gas consumers across Pakistan can be confronted with a major financial burden from July, because the Suit Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and the Su Southern Gas Company (SSGC) asked to RS2372 by MMBTU hike in the prescribed gas rate.

The SNGPL has requested a sharp increase in RS708 / MMBTU in the gas rates while the SSGC requested an increase in RS2372 / MMBTU in the gas price prescribed for the next financial year.

According to the available documents, the two companies have deposited petitions from the Oil and Gas Gazing (OGRA) regulatory authority for the determination of the new gas prices for the year 2025-26.

The SNGPL requested OGGA approval to increase the average price prescribed natural gas to RS2,485.72 per MMBTU for exercise 2025-26 from RS1772 / MMBTU existing.

The price increase in prices is mainly drawn by a deficit in the income requirement, amounting to Rs207 435 million, and a significant increase in the cost of gas, including indigenous and regassified liquefied natural gas (RLNG).

The petition also highlights an increase in the cost of indigenous gas, provided for at RS231 604 million, as well as the cost of the RLNG diversion, estimated at RS299 936 million.

In addition, operating costs have increased considerably, SNGPL citing RS37.007 million for HR and other expenses. Funding costs linked to late payments also contribute to the demand for a price increase, the surcharge totaling 97,150 million rupees.

In addition, the SNGPL has offered substantial capital expenses to extend the gas network, including the installation of pipelines and other measures to control non -recognized gas (UFG).
