Geno Smith is under investigation by authorities in Florida for an alleged assault.
A woman claimed on Instagram that the New York Jets quarterback “beat me because he HATES taking care of his special needs child and can’t be left alone with him because he (sic) would rather watch sex online and play Call of Duty.” »
The California Post and ESPN reported that police were called to Smith’s home in Davie, Florida, on Sunday, but no arrests were made.

However, ESPN reported Tuesday morning, and PK Press Club Digital confirmed, that a review of the case warranted further investigation, and it is now an active case.
No additional information has been made available. The Jets did not respond to emails from PK Press Club Digital.
Smith is expected to begin his second stint with the Jets, who drafted him in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft, later this year. The Jets acquired him from the Las Vegas Raiders, who used the No. 1 pick to select Fernando Mendoza.

Smith backed up Russell Wilson in Seattle for two seasons and filled in pretty well, hitting .500 in each of his three seasons as a starter, but the Seahawks sent him to the Raiders and brought in Sam Darnold, one of several moves that helped them win the Super Bowl last February.
Smith led the NFL with 17 interceptions last year, and with the No. 1 overall pick, Smith’s time in Vegas was understandably short-lived. But because the Jets held the second pick in a weak quarterback class, they went into the veteran market after Justin Fields failed to pan out.

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn boldly asserted that Smith would “lead us to the promised land.” The Jets won just three games last season and haven’t reached the playoffs since 2010.
