Unknown men on motorbikes reportedly threw a hand grenade at a police mobile carrying out routine patrol duties.

QUETTA:

Sixteen people, including three police officers, were injured on Thursday after unidentified assailants threw a hand grenade at a police patrol in Dera Murad Jamali, police officials confirmed.

The blast took place near DC Chowk at Faseel Square in the Main Bazaar, which falls under the jurisdiction of Dera Murad Jamali Town Police Station in Nasirabad district.

According to the police, unknown persons on motorcycles threw a hand grenade at a police mobile carrying out routine patrols. The device detonated with a loud explosion, injuring police officers and civilians present in the crowded market.

Rescue workers and local residents transported the injured to Dera Murad Jamali Teaching Hospital, where medical teams provided immediate care.

Hospital authorities said several victims were seriously injured, leading to the transfer of four people to a medical facility in Larkana for specialized treatment.

Police said the injured included local residents and bystanders, as well as officers assigned to patrol at the time of the incident. The attack sparked panic in the area as businesses were temporarily closed and people fled for safety.

Soon after the explosion, police and security forces arrived in large numbers, cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to find those responsible.

Security measures have been strengthened across the city, especially at sensitive locations and entry points, to prevent any further threats.

Nasirabad division has seen security incidents in recent years, with armed groups repeatedly targeting police, security personnel and important government installations.
