Hailstorm hailed by Lahoris amid heatwave

The weather in Lahore brought a pleasant relief to its residents as heavy rain and hail brought down the temperature on Wednesday.

Areas such as Mall Road, Jail Road and Gulberg experienced heavy downpours accompanied by gusty winds, making the weather cool and pleasant.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) weather monitoring report released at 3:30 p.m. said that the city of Lahore recorded 24 millimeters of rainfall in the last 24 hours, while the Lahore airport received 19 mm.

The minimum temperature in Lahore is expected to hover around 26 degrees Celsius.

According to the PMD, the weather system responsible for the precipitation was relatively weak and the clouds were expected to disperse soon.

PMD officials warned that hot weather was likely to persist after the current high pressure system subsides.

Meanwhile, on instructions from the Managing Director of the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA), operational staff have been directed to remain vigilant on the ground to ensure timely drainage of rainwater to avoid urban flooding in low-lying areas.
