Highways ban animal transport vehicles

RAWALPINDI:

The National Highways and Highways Police has banned the entry of vehicles carrying animals on highways during Eidul Azha.

According to authorities, overloaded, unfit and poorly loaded vehicles carrying animals often cause traffic accidents and traffic jams.

Therefore, these vehicles will be diverted to alternative routes instead of being allowed on the highways. Authorities said that in the past, vehicles transporting animals had been involved in several dangerous accidents, resulting in significant financial and human losses.

To ensure effective implementation, the police have asked the Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police departments to establish checkpoints at entry points of highways and near cattle markets.

Officials said the step was taken to ensure the safety of commuters traveling on highways during the Eid season. As Eidul Azha approaches, people rush to livestock markets to purchase sacrificial animals which are transported to their residences in vans and mini-trucks.
