- Honor’s innovative robot phone now has a release window
- It is expected to launch in the third quarter (July-September) this year.
- It was also presented at Cannes to demonstrate its cinematic abilities.
Honor’s Robot Phone made its final appearance at MWC 2026, but at the time it was seen as something of a concept device. Now, however, it has an official release window.
Honor announced that the Robot Phone would launch in the third quarter of this year (probably in China first), so between July and September, and alongside this announcement the company took the phone to Cannes China Night, to show off its potential for making movies on a phone.
Unlike a normal smartphone, the Honor Robot Phone has an AI-powered camera attached to a gimbal. The camera can protrude from the top of the phone and rotate independently of the rest of the handset, making it a versatile filmmaking tool.
Advanced Technology and Arri Collaboration
Honor is marketing the device as “the next evolution in mobile filmmaking and AI hardware innovation,” with features like its “ultra-compact 4DoF gimbal system delivering robot-grade motion control” shown off at Cannes, as well as AI Object Tracking and SpinShot AI, which allow the camera to track subjects and perform smooth rotational movements.
The company also took the opportunity to highlight that “for the first time ever, the core elements of Arri Image Science are integrated directly into a consumer device.” Arri, if you don’t know, is a professional camera technology designer and manufacturer in business since 1917.
So it seems like the Honor Robot Phone could be a very capable device when it comes to AI-backed filmmaking, but it also feels like a niche proposition – and given the design of this phone, it was always likely to be somewhat niche regardless.
So it will be interesting to see if it can also attract buyers who aren’t interested in being the next Spielberg. We should know in just a few months.
