The fifth and final season of The bear picks up the morning after Carmy’s explosive decision to walk away from the restaurant, a drastic step he had to take to not only make peace with Richie and Syd, but also to tackle his own personal demons.
For Richie and Syd, it’s the opportunity of a lifetime, but with Cicero relentlessly pressing his promise to close this corporate sinkhole once and for all, it’s also a poisoned chalice. Those Jono Pandolfi plates don’t seem so vital now.
Although the specter of Mikey has been constant throughout the series’ previous four seasons, Carmy’s impending journey of personal discovery coupled with the events of Gary could suggest a breakthrough. The special flashback episode indicated that there wasn’t much more Richie could have done to help his best friend and that in fact, Mikey may have derailed his chance at happiness with Tiff.
