Watch the US Open 2026 live broadcasts, as the tournament returns to the backdrop of some of its most infamous stages: Shinnecock Hills Golf Club. It’s where Brooks Koepka won with a 1-over in 2018, and where Retief Goosen’s 4-under topped the charts in 2004 – after the seventh green had to be watered by hand mid-round.
The Long Island links-style course has drawn the ire of many greats, including Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Rory McIlroy, because it is exposed to winds and its greens are fast, firm and unforgiving. Seeing how many of the game’s big stars threw their toys out of the pram in the build-up to last month’s PGA Championship, we’d be surprised if we didn’t see a tantrum or two this weekend.
That said, tournament organizers have decided not to narrow the fairways as they usually do, which should particularly benefit the sometimes finicky big hitters McIlroy, Cameron Young and Bryson DeChambeau.
It will be Scottie Scheffler’s first attempt at a career Grand Slam, which has only been achieved by six other golfers, and the final round just so happens to fall on his 30th birthday.
JJ Spaun made a 64-foot birdie on the 18th to beat Robert MacIntyre to the U.S. Open title last year, while Koepka edged Tommy Fleetwood by a single stroke on the tournament’s final visit to Shinnecock. While all around him were losing their minds, Aaron Rai kept his composure to conquer the difficult setup of the PGA Championship. They will all be worth watching this weekend.
