Scams surrounding the 2026 FIFA World Cup will peak, predictably, right before and during the World Cup. However, to maximize the effectiveness of these scams, fraudsters need much more time.

That’s according to cybersecurity researcher Check Point Research, who in a new blog post said scammers have been positioning themselves for months now, focusing on three key pillars: finance, travel and hospitality, and gambling. Now, with the World Cup about to begin, the infrastructure for scams is “already built” and most of the fraudulent sites are already up and running.
