Google is rolling out a pretty cool new AI-powered photo feature thanks to a partnership with Motorola announced earlier today – and it’s one of those ideas that actually seems useful in real life.
“Google Photos Wardrobe” builds on something we’ve already seen with AI assistants: They’re at their best when integrated directly into apps and services, rather than sitting on the sidelines as standalone tools. And in this case, Google is building on that idea in a way that could be really useful in everyday life.

Essentially, Google Photos will now capture clothing and accessories that appear in your photos hosted within the app. On Motorola devices, including the new Razr Fold, Razr, Razr+ and Razr Ultra, Google Photos is the default photo app and will automatically begin assembling your digital wardrobe from the clothes and accessories it detects in your images.
The result is a digital closet that extracts the item and presents it as a clean image, while easily listing reference images indicating when that item was found. It could be your favorite pair of sneakers, a button-down shirt you love, or a pair of pants that will be your go-to for a night out on the town.
From there, you can mix and match on your screen to get an idea of how they go together. To take it a step further, you can tap a command to see how it looks on your… uh, well, digital avatar that it will create for you.
This process took approximately 30-45 seconds during a brief hands-on demonstration. Under the hood, Google’s Nano Banana model generates a digital avatar, applies selected clothing and accessories, then renders the final look for you, essentially providing a digital try-on experience for the look you’ve selected. You can save it, but you can also swap the items if it doesn’t look quite right.
For this demo, the experience didn’t run on an actual personal camera roll, but on a repopulated sample library designed to show how the feature works. Still, it gives a clear idea of how Google structures this as a personal style system built right on top of your photos.
Google Photos Cabinet will launch this summer, first on Google Photos for Android, and this includes the new Razr devices. However, Google is also working on bringing it to iOS in the Google Photos app. It does not work on the device, so an internet connection is also required.
We’ve already seen Google Shopping offer virtual try-ons in Search, but Google Photos Wardrobe seems more consistent. It creates a personal catalog from your own photos, making it easy to rediscover forgotten pieces from your wardrobe and experiment with new combinations – which, honestly, is part of the fun.
I look forward to spending a little more time on it when it launches in the coming months. Let me know what you think in the comments below.
