Rawalpindi: Pakistan family members incarcerated Tehreek-e-insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, were forbidden to visit him at the Adiala prison in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, causing intense criticism of his sister Aleema Khan.
Imran Sisters – Aleema and Uzma Khan – and Qasim Khan Niazi were prevented from entering the prison premises.
In a statement, Aleema said that she did not understand why the authorities were nervous. “It’s just family here, no one else.”
She alleged that the authorities had communicated that the family would not be authorized to meet the founder of PTI incarcerated. “They said we are not allowed to enter. Why not?” she interviewed.
Aleema revealed that family members were denied a meeting for three consecutive weeks. “Today, once again, the police have been deployed here to prevent us from meeting him.”
“In such circumstances, if we do not feel upset, when are we supposed to feel?” She asked.
She also said that if they were not allowed to meet the founder of the PTI, they would continue to sit outside the prison. “We are very distressing. It’s been three weeks and we have still not been able to meet him,” she added.
Last month, the High Court of Islamabad (IHC) restored meetings twice a week with the founder of PTI, allowing them to take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
However, the court strictly prohibited any media discourse after these meetings. He decided that no individual meeting of the founding president of the PTI would be authorized to speak to the media thereafter.
In addition, only people whose names are provided by the coordinator of the PTI founder, Salman Akram Raja, will be allowed to meet him.
Earlier, Aleema expressed his concerns about the restricted access to her brother.
By reacting to the meeting of PTI leaders with the former first, she deplored the selective application of meeting restrictions, saying that the prisoner authorities had categorically told them that family meetings were not authorized during the gas holidays.
“Yesterday, on April 1, was a public holiday by gas and we were not allowed to meet our brother. The last time we saw it was March 20. On March 27, we also refused to access,” she said in an article on X.
Aleema also asked why others had access while family members were restricted – referring to the Imran meeting with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, and lawyer Muhammad Ali Saif.
“Are the holiday restrictions looking for the family only for the family? We have not been allowed to meet Imran, and it is also forbidden to speak to his sons.”
