Is American men’s tennis in trouble at the start of Roland-Garros?

Frances Tiafoe speaks out: Is American men’s tennis in trouble at the start of Roland-Garros?

It has now been two decades since an American has brought home a major singles title.

The current roster is still looking for the big win, with Frances Tiafoe being the one fans are pinning their hopes on.

He is ranked 21st in the world, but he nevertheless enjoyed his last run at Roland-Garros last year, finishing in the quarter-finals.

It was not him who came close to the finish line, several others failed to end twenty years of drought either.

In a recent media appearance, just before the tournament kicked off, Tiafoe expressed his opinion.

He said: “It’s been fun for a long time. I think we’ve been killing it. It’s just about having a few guys. It’s just very heavy, man.”

Tiafoe talks about American tennis, adding: “We, you know, they control hard. I mean, I think, you know, Fritz has been in the top 10 for several years.

“Ben fell for it. He kind of solidified himself as a top ten guy. I mean, I’ve been in the top 20 the majority of years the last four years. So has Tommy. He’s flirted every now and then, so.”

Tiafoe explains: “We have Korda, I mean, you know, if he’s healthy, you know, he’s still, again, in the top 20.

“But it’s his way of organizing these weeks and trying to get to the ultimate goal, and one of us trying to win, and that type of event.”

“You know, Ben won 1000, you know, Fritz won 1000, you know, I was final of a 1000, so we’re all flirting with the top of the game. We just have to cross the line,” Tiafoe concluded.

Andy Roddick remains the last man standing to win the US Open title in 2003, almost two decades ago.

This time at Roland Garros, only Shelton will be the top seeded American who will begin his campaign on clay.
